Amnesty International Nigeria has called for an urgent investigation into alleged remarks attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi ahead of the Osun State governorship election.
The organisation made the call in a post on its X handle on Saturday, saying allegations of incitement to violence required prompt action by the relevant authorities.
Amnesty International Nigeria urged authorities to conduct a “prompt, impartial and thorough investigation” into the reported remarks and ensure accountability if evidence establishes that a criminal offence was committed.
“Political differences must never become a justification for violence,” the organisation said.
It also urged members of the public to support its petition calling on the authorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
The call came as voting continued in the Osun governorship election amid heightened attention to the conduct of political actors and the need to maintain peace throughout the electoral process.
