Osun election: APC defeats Adeleke, ADC at Aregbesola’s polling unit

Former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola suffered a setback at his polling unit in Ilesa on Saturday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded a decisive victory in the ongoing governorship election.

The APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, secured 256 votes at the polling unit, while the Accord Party candidate and incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, polled 43 votes.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came a distant third with 13 votes.

The result is notable given Aregbesola’s political standing as a former governor of Osun and a prominent figure in Ijesaland.

The polling unit had attracted attention ahead of the election, with Aregbesola’s presence adding to interest in the voting exercise in the area.

The APC’s 213-vote margin over Accord also underscored the party’s strong showing at the polling unit, with its tally surpassing the combined votes recorded by Accord and ADC.

Earlier on Saturday, Aregbesola arrived at the polling location to cast his ballot, drawing the attention of voters and political observers as voting got underway.
