Osun election: Davido clashes with Sowore over ‘I will never support APC’ comment

Daily Post about 2 hours 3 mins read

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has clashed with activist and politician Omoyele Sowore in a heated exchange on X after publicly declaring that he will never support the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a post from his verified X account, Davido wrote in emphatic terms: “I can never support APC in my life!!!”

The post, which attracted significant attention on the platform, was followed by another direct message from the singer aimed at Sowore.

Davido wrote: “Ur a useless man.”

Sowore had responded to Davido by questioning the singer’s political position and that of his family, particularly in relation to the Adeleke family’s political influence in Osun State and its relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his response, Sowore wrote: “Now you know, @Davido. You guys thought you could have it both ways, opportunism and political hedging.”

Sowore went on to accuse the Adeleke family of attempting to maintain political influence in Osun State while simultaneously embracing the Tinubu administration at the federal level.

He wrote: “you want your family to keep controlling the Osun State purse while embracing the same monstrous Tinubu @officialabat establishment at the federal level.”

The exchange has since drawn attention because of Davido’s prominent place in the Adeleke family and his long-standing public support for his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Davido’s latest declaration, however, makes his position on the APC clear, at least according to the post shown on his verified X account.

The confrontation with Sowore has consequently added a fresh political dimension to the singer’s public involvement in Osun politics, particularly as the Adeleke family remains one of the state’s most influential political families.

Davido’s latest declaration is notable because of his previous encounters with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2025. In May, the singer paid a surprise visit to Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, accompanied by associates, including Ubi Franklin and Cubana Chief Priest.

The purpose of the visit was not disclosed. A month later, in June 2025, Davido accompanied his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, and his father, businessman Chief Adedeji Adeleke, to meet President Tinubu at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The meetings generated political interest at a time when there was speculation about Governor Adeleke’s political future and a possible move to the APC.

This comes at a time when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to declare the result of the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday.

Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election in the poll.
