The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 2,500 personnel and 50 operational vehicles across Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The agency warned motorists and other road users to comply with traffic regulations and movement restrictions.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, the FRSC said the personnel would also support the enforcement of the movement restriction order during the poll.
“We have deployed personnel across the three senatorial districts to ensure smooth traffic flow, quick emergency response and safe movement during the election. The deployment includes 2,300 officers from the Osun Sector Command, supported by 50 personnel each from Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Ogun,” the Corps said.
The Corps has also deployed 50 operational vehicles, including seven heavy-duty tow trucks and six ambulances, to strategic locations across the state for traffic control, rescue operations and emergency response.
The FRSC said the measures were designed to support the safe movement of election officials, accredited observers, security personnel and other road users before, during and after the election.
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the deployment reflected the Corps’ commitment to supporting a peaceful and credible election while ensuring road safety and effective traffic management throughout the electoral process.
“We are deploying our personnel as part of our commitment to supporting a peaceful and credible election, while ensuring road safety and effective traffic management throughout the electoral process,” Mohammed said.
Mohammed said the Corps would ensure that roads remain safe, orderly and accessible throughout the election.
He added that its personnel would carry out their duties firmly, professionally and impartially.
He said FRSC personnel would work closely with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and other relevant agencies while carrying out their duties with neutrality, discipline and respect for human rights.
The Corps also disclosed that vehicles provided by fleet operators to transport electoral materials would be inspected and certified before deployment to ensure they are roadworthy and meet the required safety standards.
“The restriction of movement will be strictly enforced in designated areas, with enforcement vehicles deployed from 6:00 a.m. on Saturday and personnel stationed at strategic locations across the state. We urge motorists, transport operators and other road users to plan their journeys ahead and avoid restricted routes during the election,” the FRSC said.
