Outrage as Ogun police brutalise man for wearing camouflage shorts, CP orders arrest

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

There was outrage on Saturday after a viral video showed police officers molesting a young man in the Ijagba area of Ota, Ogun State, for allegedly wearing camouflage shorts.

The video, which was first posted on TikTok by HairbyArik and reshared on X by @Godsboy441, showed the man pinned to the ground with handcuffs, struggling as officers tried to force him into a commercial minibus.

His cries for help attracted residents who trooped out and confronted the policemen.

"Between you and these young men, who are the thieves? See the way they are beating someone's child," a woman was heard saying in the background, while another shouted, "Please come to my aid everyone!"

The officers were alleged to have accused the man of wearing camouflage, which is prohibited for civilians, but residents resisted the arrest, insisting the action was brutality.

In the footage, which has garnered over 8.9k likes on TikTok, a crowd surrounded the officers, demanding they remove the handcuffs. After several minutes of argument, the policemen were forced to abandon the arrest and leave the community to the cheers of residents.

The lady who recorded the video also alleged the officers threatened to arrest her for filming them.

Reacting on Sunday, the Ogun State Police Command said it has identified and apprehended the officers involved.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, has ordered immediate action in line with established procedures.

"The officers involved have been identified, and the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni has ordered immediate action in line with established procedures," Babaseyi said.

"The Command remains committed to accountability, professional discipline and the highest standards of policing. Further updates will be communicated as developments warrant," he stated.

The PRO added in another statement, “The 4 officers are enroute to the Headquarters”.

DAILY POST reports that the incident comes just days to the 6th anniversary of the #EndSARS protests against police brutality, billed for October 20.
