Over 200 Nigerians currently held at a deportation camp in New Delhi, India, have sent an urgent plea to President Bola Tinubu and Nigerian diplomatic officials, begging for help to return home.
In videos shared online, the detainees described horrible conditions at the camp, including poor food, lack of medical care, and severe mental distress.
Some detainees, who hail from various states across Nigeria including Delta and Akwa Ibom, revealed they have been stuck in the facility for up to 10 months, while others have been there for two to three years.
The men explained that they are not staying in the facility by choice, but simply because they cannot afford the plane tickets back home.
They alleged that the prolonged detention has pushed many into depression, with some suffering mental breakdowns and others tragically losing their lives.
They are calling on the Federal Government and the Nigerian High Commissioner in India to step in urgently and rescue them.
