DAILY POST reports that Makinde, on Monday, after receiving the rescued victims from the military, called on […]\nOyo Abduction: Blame game unnecessary- Arise TV’s Rufai picks holes in Makinde, FG feud","\n\u003Cp>Popular Nigerian TV host, Rufai Oseni, has condemned the ongoing blame game between Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the Federal Government over the abduction of pupils and teachers rescued from Oriire Local Government Area of the state.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>DAILY POST reports that Makinde, on Monday, after receiving the rescued victims from the military, called on the United Nations to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The governor’s call, however, drew criticism from officials of the Federal Government and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, who argued that Nigeria is a sovereign nation capable of handling its internal security matters.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Makinde had also suggested that the abduction might be linked to his political ambition, noting that the incident occurred shortly after he announced his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Reacting on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Oseni criticised the exchange between the governor and the Federal Government, describing the blame game as unnecessary.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The broadcaster argued that the focus should now be on finding lasting solutions rather than engaging in political arguments, stressing that the victims had already been rescued.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“The point that Makinde keeps making that it’s because he declared for the presidency and all of that, what was Sunday Igboho fighting for at that time? Was it not the killing of people in Oyo State? Was Makinde not the governor then?\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“What kind of talk is this? It has happened, it has happened; let’s find a solution. When the driver arrived at the Bauchi motor park near Awala Hotel, he contacted her to collect the package.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Her brother reportedly took her to the park on a motorcycle. After collecting the items, they were heading home when the crash occurred.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the source, as they approached the Police Officers’ Mess and were about to turn into the New GRA area, the Sharon bus hit the motorcycle and sped off.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Rebecca was thrown onto the road and suffered severe head injuries, including a fractured skull. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while her brother sustained injuries.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>A First Information Report obtained from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Bauchi Sector Command, showed that the crash occurred at about 5:15 pm on July 14, 2026, and was reported five minutes later.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The report stated that FRSC personnel arrived at the scene at about 5:30 p.m., recording a response time of 10 minutes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It identified the motorcycle involved as a Jincheng motorcycle with registration number TFB-38-QB, used for private purposes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The FRSC said two adults, a male and a female, were involved in the crash. The male sustained injuries, while the female was confirmed dead.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Items recovered from the scene included the motorcycle, a women’s hair stretcher and a pair of shoes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The injured victim was evacuated to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for treatment, while Rebecca’s body was deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The driver of the Sharon bus reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash and had yet to be identified as of the time of filing this report. his family.\u003Cbr>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The development was disclosed in a report by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security analyst covering the Lake Chad region.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the report, the attack occurred in the early hours of July 15 when suspected kidnappers stormed the district head’s residence located in the Hubbare area of Birnin Kebbi.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Makama reported that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Birnin Kebbi received a distress call at about 1:13am, from Alhaji Uwaisu Saad of Ubandoman Kebbi, alerting security operatives to the incident.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The report stated that the DPO mobilised a joint security team comprising police operatives, personnel of the 36 Police Mobile Force, officers of the Operations Department, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, and local vigilantes to the scene.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“According to the sources, the suspected kidnappers fled into a nearby bush on sighting the advancing security operatives, abandoning their mission,” the report stated.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Makama added that the security team rescued the district head and members of his family without any of them being abducted.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The report, however, stated that three labourers working at the \u002F>\n\u003Cp>Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, Katsina State chapter, has urged the Katsina State Government to focus on tackling banditry rather than targeting critics, while demanding the immediate and unconditional release of public affairs analyst, Dr. Bashir Kurfi.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The coalition made the call in a statement issued by its Katsina State Coordinator, Abdullahi Kabir.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the group, Kurfi was arrested after speaking out on the worsening security situation and the government’s handling of banditry in the state.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The coalition described his arrest and continued detention as political persecution, arguing that the use of security agencies and the judiciary against citizens for expressing their views undermines democracy, freedom of expression and constitutional rights.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It expressed concern that while many communities in Katsina continue to face deadly bandit attacks, displacement and insecurity, government attention appeared to be directed at silencing those who criticise its response.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“The government should be confronting the criminals terrorising our communities, not persecuting citizens who speak out on behalf of victims,” the statement said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The CNG further alleged that efforts were being made to keep Kurfi in detention through what it described as fabricated charges and a manipulated judicial process.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The coalition also raised concerns over the proposed establishment of state police, warning that security institutions could be vulnerable to political interference if adequate safeguards are not put in place.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It maintained that criticism of government policies and demands for accountability should not be criminalised, insisting that citizens have a constitutional right to speak on issues of public interest.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The group called for Kurfi’s immediate release, the withdrawal of what it described as politically motivated actions against him, and an end to the intimidation of journalists, analysts, activists and other citizens.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It also urged the Nigeria Police Force to resist political interference and concentrate on tackling banditry and other violent crimes across Katsina State.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Ca
