Panic in Lagos community as police storm criminal hideouts, arrest suspects

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Armed police operatives have carried out a late-night raid on suspected criminal hideouts around the Oko Filling Bus Stop axis along LASU–Governor’s Road in the Alimosho area of Lagos, leading to the arrest of several suspects and the destruction of a dumpsite allegedly used as a base by hoodlums.

The operation, which took place in the early hours of Sunday near the Alimosho General Hospital corridor along the Iyana Ipaja Expressway, saw heavily armed officers storming the area with multiple patrol vehicles deployed from different parts of the state.

During the exercise, security operatives reportedly set ablaze a large dumpsite believed by residents to have served as a hideout for armed robbers and other notorious criminals operating within the community.

The development triggered panic among residents, many of whom were awakened by the heavy security presence and sounds of sporadic gunfire in the area. Several residents were said to have contacted emergency lines as the operation unfolded.

Although the source of the gunshots could not be independently verified, eyewitnesses suggested that the exchange may have involved both the police and suspected criminals during the raid.

Residents of the community had reportedly raised repeated concerns with security agencies over the activities of suspected hoodlums around the area, alleging that the location had become a haven for criminal operations.

One resident, identified simply as Deola, claimed the incident stemmed from a confrontation between police operatives and suspected cult members.

“I got injured during the confusion that followed when people started running because of the cult boys,” he said.

“They scattered across Governor’s Road last night while I was trying to buy noodles. Some of those who sustained injuries were taken to the hospital for treatment.”

As of the time of filing this report, the Lagos State Police Command had not released an official statement on the operation.

However, sources indicated that the raid was aimed at dismantling a suspected criminal and terrorist hideout within the area.
