KAMPALA — Uganda’s luxury tourism sector is set for a major boost as Paradise Island Resort, the Ruparelia Group’s exclusive private-island retreat on Lake Victoria, prepares to open its doors, positioning itself as a top choice for dream destination weddings and honeymoons.

Located on a secluded 19-acre island roughly 20 minutes by speedboat from Speke Resort Munyonyo Marina, the multi-billion-shilling development is marketed as “Your dream wedding destination.” Promotional materials feature romantic sunset scenes of couples on the island’s stone pier, highlighting the dramatic Lake Victoria backdrop of golden sunsets, calm waters, and tropical scenery.

Developed under the Speke Group of Hotels by businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, with involvement from director Sheena Ruparelia, the resort expands the group’s established hospitality portfolio that includes Speke Resort Munyonyo and Kabira Country Club. Construction began in 2021, and the property has been designed as a 100 per cent solar-powered eco-lodge, offering quiet luxury without diesel generators.

The resort features 38 accommodation units, including standard cottages, cliff-hanger cottages with panoramic lake views, deluxe two-bedroom cottages, and executive villas. Additional attractions include a man-made beach, infinity pool, fine-dining restaurants, spa and wellness facilities, and conference spaces. Activities such as speedboat excursions, kayaking, bird watching, and nature walks complement the experience, while the scenic waterfront and landscaped gardens make it particularly suited for weddings, private celebrations, and honeymoons.

Access is exclusively by boat from the Munyonyo marina, turning the short lake crossing into part of the guest experience. The development is expected to create jobs in hospitality, marine transport, catering, and related services while supporting Uganda’s push to attract high-value leisure and conference tourism beyond traditional safari offerings.

With final preparations underway, the island retreat is poised to add a distinctive new chapter to Uganda’s luxury tourism offerings on Lake Victoria.
