Operatives of the Taraba State Police Command have arrested two suspects following a violent altercation that led to the death of a commercial tricycle union pass distributor at Angwan Kassa junction, a suburb of Jalingo, the state capital.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, triggered panic among residents and commuters in the area.
Vanguard gathered that the violent clash erupted when the deceased intercepted a commercial tricycle (Keke NAPEP) operator for operating without a mandatory daily union ticket.
The victim’s insistence that the operator purchase the pass escalated into a heated argument, during which the pass distributor was stabbed. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command, ASP Victor Mshelizah, said two suspects were immediately apprehended in connection with the crime.
“Two suspects have been taken into custody and are undergoing interrogation. They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” Mshelizah stated.
Meanwhile, commercial tricycle operators shuttling the route from the Area Command Junction through the Angwan Kassa axis to the Deeper Life Camp junction have abandoned their parks.
The abrupt withdrawal of services has left scores of commuters stranded, forcing many to trek considerable distances to alternative points to secure transportation.
