Pastor Bags Just 49 Years In Prison For Raping, Impregnating Daughter In Akwa Ibom

An Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo has sentenced Apostle Williams Okon Bassey of Mount Zion Lighthouse Full Gospel Church to 49 years imprisonment after finding him guilty of repeatedly sexually abusing and impregnating his daughter.

Justice Bassey delivered the judgment on June 10, 2026. The pastor was arrested in November 2019 following allegations of incest and rape.

According to the victim, the abuse began when she was about 13 years old and continued over a period of time, resulting in three pregnancies. She alleged that her father often demanded sex before providing money for her education and other personal needs.

During the investigation, Bassey admitted to having sexual relations with his daughter, although he claimed it began when she was 16 years old. He also acknowledged that the relationship led to multiple pregnancies, which were later terminated.

The court subsequently convicted him and handed down a 49-year prison sentence.
