A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Anthony Ehilebo, on Thursday, queried President Bola Tinubu over the detrioriating healthcare sector in Nigeria since he assumed office in 2023.
Ehilebo challenged Tinubu to reveal to Nigerians how many hospitals his administration has built since he assumed office in 2023.
He was reacting to some X users who were reacting to hospitals in Enugu State.
A video posted by @Chude_ND1, said: “Mbah has built the best hospital in the Southeast. The 300-bed capacity Enugu International Hospital is built and equipped to global standard.”
@AmechiMark wrote: “This is an observation that has gained more grounds in the current dispensation. It is beginning to seem that political affiliation comes with a different kind of immunity in Nigeria. When statements that could reasonably be interpreted as incitement to violence or murder are made, the response often appears to depend less on what was said and more on who said it.
“That is dangerous for any democracy. The law must not have a party card. Justice cannot be selective, and accountability cannot depend on political allegiance. If a statement crosses the legal threshold for incitement, let the appropriate authorities investigate it transparently and allow the law to take its course. If it does not, let that be established through due process.
“We cannot continue building a country where citizens are punished for what powerful politicians are excused for. A democracy survives not when the powerful are protected, but when the law protects everyone equally.”
Reacting in a post on X, Ehilebo wrote: “When I speak on Air and ask those supporting Tinubu which hospital he has built since he became president they go mute, deaf and dumb. A reasonable government knows our healthcare services are insufficient and must keep improving and adding more kudos. He was originally a PDP governor.”
