Peller Apologises After Dressing Like Jesus Christ On Livestream, Says He Is Both Christian And Muslim

Popular Nigerian content creator Peller, whose real name is Habeeb Adelaja, has apologised after he dressed like Jesus Christ during a livestream and asked a guest to address him as such, a stunt that drew heavy criticism online.

In a video posted after the clip went viral, Peller said he never expected the outfit to offend anyone. The streamer, who has about 17 million followers, described the costume as a simple piece of white cloth.

In the livestream, Peller greeted a visitor with “Jesus Christ” instead of his name. The guest refused to play along and warned him against disrespecting any religion. Another person on the stream cautioned that he was “digging himself into a hole.”

Peller defended himself during the exchange, saying he was only wearing a white and red costume with a wig and arguing that nobody knows what Jesus looked like. He also told those present that he planned to appear as an Imam the next day, which alarmed the people with him.

In his apology, he said he was very sorry and loved Christians. “I’m a Christian, I go to CAC, and I’m also a Muslim,” he said, in an apparent bid to show he meant no harm to either faith.

Many Nigerians were unconvinced. Some commenters said the apology did not amount to an admission of wrongdoing, while others joked that Peller apologises so often that his mouth moves faster than his brain.

This is not the first time the streamer has faced backlash over religious content. Earlier this year, gospel singer Ebuka Songs apologised to the Christian community after a livestream with Peller in which Peller mimicked speaking in tongues.

Rapper YCee has also named Peller while criticising what he called “brain-rot” content in Nigeria, and defended his remarks in an interview on Cool FM. At the time of this report, there was no word on whether any religious group planned to take action over the latest stunt.
