The presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has mourned the death of Mallam Nafiu Baba-Ahmed, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria.

Obi, in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, described the deceased as a lawyer, scholar and administrator who served with dedication and distinction.

He said, “I sincerely condole with the Baba-Ahmed family over the passing of Mallam Nafiu Baba-Ahmed, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria.

“Mallam Nafiu was a lawyer, scholar and administrator who served with dedication and distinction. He was also a bridge-builder who believed in justice, peaceful coexistence and the importance of bringing people together.

“His passing is a loss to his family, the Council, Kaduna State, the Muslim Ummah and our nation. At a time when Nigeria needs more voices for peace, understanding and justice, his absence will be deeply felt.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues and all who mourn him. May Almighty God forgive his shortcomings, grant him eternal rest, and give his loved ones the strength and comfort to bear this painful loss.”
