JOS – Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Sunday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, saying he would deploy every lawful means at his disposal to safeguard the people against banditry, criminality and other security threats.
Mutfwang, who spoke amid renewed attacks in parts of the state, said he would not abandon his responsibility of securing the people, insisting that Plateau would not be defeated by violence or the gun.
The Governor spoke at the 2026 Plateau Annual Convention of the General Council of the Assemblies of God Nigeria, North East Zone, held at the Assemblies of God Nigeria, Jos District Headquarters, Gyel, along the Bukuru Expressway, Jos South Local Government Area.
The convention was held under the theme, “Breaking Barriers into Your Next Level.”
Mutfwang said his administration had continued to work with security agencies to confront perpetrators of violence and restore lasting peace across the state.”
“I cannot abandon my responsibility of securing the people of Plateau State. We will protect our people with all that we have, within the ambit of the law,” he said.
The Governor acknowledged the difficult security challenges confronting the country but expressed confidence in Nigerians’ resilience to overcome them.
He said, “Plateau State will not be defeated by violence or the gun.
“We must remain united because our collective strength is critical to overcoming the challenges confronting us.”
Mutfwang urged citizens to reject divisions and the spirit of pulling one another down, saying unity remained essential to the state’s survival and development.
He particularly appealed to Christian leaders to rise above differences and serve as rallying points for unity, peace and progress.
The Governor said, “As Christian leaders, we must rise above our differences. We must put aside bitterness, unforgiveness and arrogance.”
“We must embrace humility, love and reconciliation because these are the values that Christ taught us.”
Mutfwang also said his involvement in politics was driven by a desire to serve God and humanity, stressing that his administration remained committed to changing the negative narrative about Plateau State.”
He said, “I went into politics because I wanted to serve God and humanity. We will continue to do everything within our capacity to change the narrative about Plateau State.”
According to him, the government would continue to pursue development across critical sectors while improving the welfare of the people.”
Mutfwang expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the Assemblies of God Nigeria for their prayers, support and contributions to the peace and development of Plateau State.
He also commended the Church for its role in society’s spiritual and moral development, noting that the Assemblies of God Nigeria was founded on revival and should continue to promote spiritual renewal.
Also speaking, the Executive Council member representing the North East Zone, Rev. Jacob Langs, thanked Mutfwang for honouring the invitation to the convention.
Langs acknowledged the Governor’s contributions to the development of Plateau State and the Assemblies of God Nigeria, particularly the opportunities and appointments extended to Church members and the Gyel community.
