Abia State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a murder suspect, Livingston Nwakanma, who allegedly killed his mother, Mrs Nwaigbe Nwakanma, with a machete in Osaa Ukwu, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
The Police Command also said the prompt arrival of its officers at the scene saved the suspect from a mob that was about to lynch him.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the arrest while responding to a message from DAILY POST.
She said, “The attention of the Eastern Ngwa Divisional Police Headquarters was drawn to the incident on 19/09/2026 through a distress call, and officers promptly raced to the scene.
“On arrival, officers met the macheted mother of the suspect, who was lifeless at the scene. A medical professional confirmed her death, and her body was deposited at the morgue.
“The suspect, who was about to be lynched by a mob, was swiftly rescued by the police and taken to the hospital for medical attention.
“He is currently in police custody, while investigation into the incident is ongoing,” DSP Chinaka explained.
DAILY POST recalls that the suspect, Mr Livingston Nwakanma, who was said to be suffering from a mental health crisis, allegedly killed his mother on Saturday while she was preparing soup in her kitchen.
