The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old male suspect, Usman Dauda, over the alleged defilement of a three-year-old girl in Saki area of the state.
A statement by the command said the arrest followed a distress report lodged at the Saki Divisional Police Station on September 17, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m., after the child went missing while she was being picked up from school earlier that afternoon.
Following the report, a local search was conducted, leading to the recovery of the child by the roadside in a distressed condition.
Preliminary inquiries indicated that the suspect had allegedly forcibly taken the child into his apartment, where he allegedly committed the offence.
Following the discovery, detectives visited and secured the scene of the alleged crime. The operation led to the immediate arrest of Dauda and the recovery of critical physical evidence linked to the alleged offence.
“While investigations were immediately activated, the young survivor was promptly rushed to a medical facility in Saki, where she is currently receiving comprehensive clinical treatment and psychotherapeutic care,” the statement noted.
The Oyo State Police Command said it would maintain its zero-tolerance policy against child abuse and sexual violence.
The command also said it would protect the privacy, dignity and identity of the survivor and her family in line with the Child Rights Act and ethical guidelines.
According to the command, the case has been transferred to the Gender Desk of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigation and prosecution.
The command assured residents of its commitment to safety and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report acts of violence against children or vulnerable persons to the nearest police facility.
