Police have arrested 18 suspects in an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected networks involved in the theft and illegal trade of motor vehicle accessories in Kampala.

The suspects, including two women, were arrested on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, during an operation conducted by officers from Jinja Road Police Station in Kisekka, targeting Ravens Plaza and Life Arcade.

The operation followed complaints from members of the public about increasing cases of theft of motor vehicle accessories, particularly during traffic jams and from vehicles parked in different parts of the city.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, the operation was aimed at dismantling suspected criminal networks involved in the theft, promotion and facilitation of the trade in stolen motor vehicle spare parts.

“During the operation, a total of 18 suspects, including two females, were arrested,” Kawala said in a statement.

She added that police recovered several exhibits believed to be connected to the alleged criminal activities.

The recovered items include vehicle grilles, side mirrors, baby mirrors, headlamps, rear lamps and other motor vehicle accessories.

Kawala said the suspects are currently in police custody, where they will undergo screening as investigations continue.

The operation is part of ongoing police efforts to crack down on criminal networks dealing in stolen motor vehicle accessories and address public concerns over the growing incidents of theft.

Police said investigations are ongoing, with further updates expected as more details emerge.
