The Kano State Police Command has arrested 19 suspected drug dealers and recovered thousands of sachets, tablets and wraps of illicit drugs during operations across the state in August 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists on the security situation and achievements of the command at the Police Headquarters, Bompai, Kano.
According to him, the arrests and recoveries were recorded through intelligence-led operations carried out by different units of the command during the month.
“During the operations, the command recovered 17,684 sachets of suspected illicit drugs, along with 614 wraps of suspected Indian hemp.
“The substances recovered included 17,070 sachets of suspected Tramadol, 49 sachets, three cartons and 18 packs of suspected Diazepam, 90 sachets of suspected Pregabalin and 210 suspected Exol tablets,” Bakori added.
The police also recovered quantities of suspected methamphetamine, popularly known as ‘Ice’ and other illicit substances during the operations.
One of the major drug seizures was recorded on August 25, when operatives attached to Rijiyar Zaki Police Division intercepted a Volkswagen Golf at Tudun Yola, Bajallabe Quarters, following information from the Nigeria Unity and Stability Corps.
The police said the vehicle contained about 13,837 sachets of suspected Tramadol allegedly being transported from Abuja for distribution in Kano.
Further investigation led officers to Rimin Auzinawa Quarters, where five additional cartons of suspected Tramadol, three cartons of suspected Diazepam and other illicit drugs were recovered. A female suspect was arrested in connection with the concealment of the drugs, while efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspects.
In another operation on August 14, officers attached to Gezawa Division arrested seven suspects at Gunduwawa Village and recovered 614 wraps of suspected Cannabis sativa.
The Anti-Kidnapping Squad also arrested a suspected group of drug peddlers at Rijiyar Lemo on August 19, recovering suspected Diazepam, Pregabalin and Exol tablets.
Similarly, police officers from Panshekara Division arrested 11 suspects on August 11 and recovered suspected Pregabalin, Diazepam, Exol tablets and a large quantity of suspected Indian hemp.
Bakori said the command would continue to intensify operations against criminal activities, including the distribution of illicit drugs.
He urged residents to support the police by providing timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime and arresting those involved in criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police also said the command had recorded a general reduction in crime across major parts of Kano Metropolis as a result of sustained patrols, intelligence gathering, community engagement and targeted operations.
Overall, the command said it arrested 244 suspects for various major offences between August 1 and 31, including suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, motor vehicle thieves, drug dealers and suspected thugs.
