ENTEBBE, October 26, 2026 — Police in Entebbe Division have arrested 20 suspects in connection with an attack on Kibuku County Member of Parliament Hon. Hebert Kinobere and other mourners during the burial of former Busiro South MP Charles Matovu.
The incident occurred on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Kungu Lutale along Nakawuka Road, where mourners had gathered to pay their last respects to the former legislator.
According to police, the attack was allegedly carried out by a group of National Unity Platform (NUP) political activists who reportedly opposed the presence of mourners perceived to support the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Police said the assailants attacked the mourners and damaged Kinobere’s vehicle, including deflating its tyres. The legislator reportedly fled the scene to avoid being harmed.
Officers from Entebbe Division, under Kampala Metropolitan Police South, intervened and secured the affected mourners, including those who had sought refuge during the incident.
Police subsequently arrested 20 suspects, who are being detained at Entebbe Police Station as investigations into the attack continue.
The force has urged members of the public to respect mourners regardless of their political affiliations and to refrain from violence, intimidation and destruction of property.
Police emphasised the need for peaceful conduct at public gatherings, particularly funeral ceremonies, where people come together to mourn and pay their respects to the deceased.
The circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation, and the suspects are being held pending further police inquiries.
