Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly poisoning a commercial motorcyclist in an attempt to steal his motorcycle in Bauchi metropolis.
The suspect, Isiyaka Badamasi, was arrested yesterday, while his alleged accomplice, Ma’aruf Sani, both residents of the Na’ibawa area of Kano State, escaped. The police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect.
The Bauchi State Police Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.
The statement said the suspects allegedly offered a 21-year-old commercial motorcyclist from the Yelwa Tudun area of Bauchi a sweet laced with a harmful substance.
The victim reportedly became intoxicated after eating the sweet, leaving him vulnerable to the suspects’ alleged attempt to dispossess him of his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle.
However, the motorcyclist raised the alarm after sensing danger, attracting members of the public who helped apprehend Badamasi, while his alleged accomplice fled.
The victim was rushed to Gamuwa Primary Health Care Centre for treatment and remains on admission, responding to medical care.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, while efforts continue to arrest the fleeing suspect.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and assured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property across Bauchi State.
