secondment to the Federal Ministry of Works, died on June 27, 2026, in a staff residential building located within Umahi’s residence in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The lawyers explained that the deceased did not reside in the same building as the minister. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>They said the building was designated for members of Umahi’s staff and other personnel working with him.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>They further stated that on the night of her death, only Habila and another female occupant, identified as a physiotherapist, were in the building.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The legal team urged the police to ensure that a comprehensive autopsy is conducted by qualified forensic pathologists to scientifically determine the actual cause and circumstances of Habila’s death.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>They also requested that Habila’s remains should not be released to anyone, including her I personally accompanied them there on the afternoon of 15th July 2026, at about 1:00 p.m,” Mark wrote.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>“It was a very long day. They were eventually released at around 12:00 a.m. and were asked to return the following day, 16th July 2026.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>In a statement on Thursday, Inibehe Effiong, human rights lawyer, said Akah and Precious were invited over allegations of naira abuse.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Effiong said his clients told EFCC investigators that the naira notes being referenced were “props money for entertainment”.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>“We arrived the Commission with Peter for Nigeria and Mama Pee on Wednesday and met with the investigators,” Effiong said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>“After cooperating with the Commission, our clients were released and we departed the EFCC’s Headquarters. Lawal, arrested one Ashiru Idris, 28, following the circulation on social media of a video showing him publicly advertising cannabis sativa for sale.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Justice S.M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court 1, Kano, convicted Idris and ordered that the seven-year prison sentence should take effect from July 14, 2026.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The agency described the judgment as a strong warning to people who publicly promote or engage in illegal drug activities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Reacting to the ruling, the Kano State Commander, CN Lawal, said: “This judgment reinforces our resolve to confront drug offenders who brazenly promote illegal substances on public platforms. The State Security Adviser and the leadership of the 12 Brigade and the 21 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, the DSS, the Police and local security operatives stormed the forest to ensure the victims were rescued.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Just this evening, while inspecting the Armoured Personnel Carriers procured by the Kogi State Government to strengthen the fight against criminality, the Governor assured newsmen that every effort was being made to secure the release of the victims.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“A few hours later, the victims regained their freedom. The sustained pressure on the kidnappers and the saturation of the forest by heavily armed security personnel forced the criminals to abandon the victims and flee.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Security operatives remain in the forest and the operation is still ongoing. We are determined to ensure that none of the criminals escapes justice. Our resolve is clear: anyone who chooses the path of crime in Kogi State will face the full weight of the law.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“We can confirm that the School Principal, the NECO official and the two students have all been rescued safely.
