The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested four suspects over the alleged breaking and entering into the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office in Jega Local Government Area, where six generators were stolen.
The command also recovered all six generators, although one had already been dismantled into scrap parts for sale.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, adding that the arrests followed separate operations involving the theft of government property and cable vandalism.
According to him, detectives were deployed after the command received a report of breaking and entering into the INEC office in Jega, leading to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of the stolen generators.
Usman said one of the generators had been dismantled into scrap parts for sale before it was recovered by the police.
In a separate operation, police operatives on August 28, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m., arrested 24-year-old Aliyu Muhammed of Dudduke Village, Jega LGA, while he was allegedly in possession of bundles of aluminium cable wires concealed in a sack.
The police spokesperson said Muhammed confessed during interrogation to conspiring with Yusuf Dudduke, also of Dudduke Village, to vandalise and steal cables from an electric pole in the community.
He said Yusuf was subsequently arrested, bringing the total number of suspects arrested in the two separate cases to six.
The command said all the suspects remain in custody and would be charged to court upon completion of the investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, warned that vandalism of critical infrastructure, breaking and entering, and theft of government property would attract severe penalties.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police.
