The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested seven people following incidents of criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, and culpable homicide that occurred in Dass Local Government Area on September 4, 2026.
According to a preliminary investigation, the incident began at about 1800hrs when an individual criminally conspired with accomplices to intercept and brutally attack a 29-year-old tricycle rider of Bundot area, Dass.
The police said that the victim was stabbed with cutlasses on various parts of his body at Tudun Wus area.
The command said that a team of policemen attached to the Dass Division swiftly mobilised to the scene upon receiving the report.
“On arrival, it was discovered that personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, whose headquarters is close to the scene, had already taken custody of the tricycle and one suspect,” it said in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, on Saturday. “The victim was immediately rushed to General Hospital, Dass, where he was subsequently confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”
The command explained that the tragic incident sparked tension in the area, leading youths from the Bundot area to mobilise in large numbers.
It said that armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, they stormed the Bayan Fada area for reprisal, resulting in a violent confrontation between the two groups at an open space near Dass Central Motor Park, during which a 38-year-old man of Bayan Fada area was stabbed.
The victim was rushed to General Hospital, Dass, and later referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was also confirmed dead.
“However, in a prompt and coordinated save-our-soul response, detectives swung into action, doused the tension, restored normalcy, and arrested the following suspects in connection with the ugly incident: Umar Abubakar ‘m’ 20-year-old of Bayan Fada area (principal suspect), Blus Garba ‘m’ 19-year-old Bundot area, Adamu Muhammad ‘m’ 17-year-old of Bundot area, Hussaini Danjuma ‘m’ 17-year-old of Bundot area, Hassan Danjuma ‘m’ 17-year-old of Bundot area, Shuaibu Sani ‘m’ 17-year-old of Bundot area, and Aliyu Abdullahi ‘m’ 18-year-old of Bundot area.
“Meanwhile, relentless efforts are in top gear to apprehend other accomplices now at large,” the police stated.
The Bauchi State Command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, while condemning the killings, has ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the matter.
He further appealed to residents of Dass to remain calm, law-abiding, and to desist from taking the law into their own hands, assuring that justice will be served.
