LAFIA — The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested four suspects over an alleged plot to abduct and kill a man after collecting ransom, as well as two others in connection with the suspected cult-related killing of a 26-year-old man in Lafia.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Rahman Nasel, disclosed this in a statement issued in Lafia on Thursday.
According to the statement, operatives of the State Intelligence Department, SID, Lafia, received credible intelligence about an alleged criminal conspiracy and planned abduction, prompting discreet investigations.
The investigation led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Yahaya Musa, Likita Adamu, Riga Abdullahi and Saidu Alhaji Gari, all residents of Adudu District, Obi Local Government Area of the state.
The police said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects had allegedly planned to abduct one Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, also known as Alhaji Na’iye, but their plan was uncovered before it could be executed.
It said two of the suspects were arrested on September 19, the third on September 22 and the fourth on September 23, 2026.
“During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement in the planned abduction and further disclosed that they had planned to kill the victim after collecting ransom,” the statement said.
The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Lafia, for further investigation and prosecution.
Police Arrest Two Over Cult-Related Killing
In a separate development, the command said it received a distress call at about 6 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, concerning an unidentified man found lying in a pool of blood behind the Eji-World area of Lafia.
The Divisional Police Officer, Ombi 1 Division, Lafia, led a team of officers to the scene, where they found Venus, 26, whose surname was not immediately known, and an indigene of Benue State.
The victim was evacuated to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The police said preliminary investigation indicated that the assailants had allegedly gone in search of the deceased’s friend, Joseph Friday Oluyemi of Maisoti Street, Lafia.
According to the statement, Oluyemi had earlier reported to the police that he received threats from suspected cult members.
The command said two suspects, identified as Friday Joshua and ThankGod Auta Vincent, had been arrested in connection with the incident, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other persons allegedly involved.
The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary of the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, for autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Muhammad, directed that the investigations be conducted diligently and professionally, with anyone found culpable prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
