Police arrest suspect over alleged transformer vandalism in Bauchi

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Monday Dauda, for allegedly vandalising an electricity transformer belonging to the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) in Bogoro Local Government Area.

The suspect was reportedly arrested at about 12:30 am on October 8, 2026, by police operatives attached to the Bogoro Divisional Headquarters during a routine patrol in the town.

The police said the operatives spotted suspicious movements around the transformer, located within the premises of Bogoro General Hospital, and moved closer to investigate.

According to the command in a statement issued on Friday, the officers discovered that the suspect had removed the transformer’s armoured cable and attached it to a motorcycle, allegedly preparing to cart it away before he was arrested.

The command added that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation, while the recovered armoured cable and motorcycle were taken as exhibits.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting critical infrastructure across the state.

The police spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, said the commissioner had directed that the suspect and the recovered exhibits be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.
