Operatives attached to the Igbesa Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 45-year-old man, Ameachi Anthony, in connection with an alleged N2.5 million fraud.
The arrest was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Sunday.
Babaseyi stated that 25 ATM cards and multiple mobile phones were recovered from the suspect.
According to him, preliminary investigation revealed an alleged scheme involving utility bills and newly acquired SIM cards used through associates to facilitate bank accounts, after which the ATM cards were allegedly collected for fraudulent transactions.
He said, “On 22 September 2026, Igbesa Division arrested Ameachine Anthony ‘M’, aged 45 years, in connection with an alleged N2.5 million fraud.
“Twenty-five ATM cards and multiple mobile phones were recovered.
“Preliminary investigation indicates an alleged scheme involving utility bills and newly acquired SIM cards used through associates to facilitate bank accounts, after which the ATM cards were allegedly collected for fraudulent transactions.”
The PPRO noted that the suspect and exhibits had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, for further investigation.
In another development on the same day, SWAT operatives arrested Peter Olanrewaju, 34, following information concerning a suspected cult-related gathering.
Babaseyi noted that further investigation also led to the arrest of one Adebayo Sodiq, 36, and the recovery of one pump-action rifle and two locally made pistols.
“Investigation is continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearms and to identify other persons who may be connected with the case,” he added.
He quoted the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, as commending the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, while reaffirming the Command’s commitment to proactive policing.
