The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested twelve suspects for various offences, including eight suspected kidnappers and four informants, during intensified clearance operations in Millennium City and Maraban Rido Communities of Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
The command also announced the recovery of AK-47 rifles during the operations, which were conducted in collaboration with other security agencies as part of efforts to tackle kidnapping and banditry activities in the affected communities.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, the arrests followed targeted raids, clearance operations and intensified patrols across the areas.
The police expressed concern over the activities of suspected informants allegedly supplying kidnappers with intelligence on security movements and operations. According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that two of the suspects allegedly confessed to leaking information about police operations to criminal elements, thereby undermining security efforts and endangering the lives of security personnel and residents.
The command said investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement, identify other accomplices, and bring those connected to the criminal activities to justice.
Meanwhile, as part of measures to strengthen security, the Kaduna State Government has released three additional Armoured Personnel Carriers to the police to enhance operational capacity in Millennium City and its surrounding communities.
The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna, Rabiu Muhammad, has also ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical personnel, operational vehicles and other security resources to the affected areas to improve surveillance, response time and crime prevention.
