The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected Sara-Suka thugs following separate attacks and disturbances in parts of Bauchi metropolis.
The incidents reportedly occurred on Sunday in Wayan Makafi, Unguwan Kur and Kofar Dumi areas of the state capital.
The police said a distress call was received at about 9:15 p.m. over the activities of suspected Sara-Suka youths who allegedly invaded Wayan Makafi and Unguwan Kur, causing panic among residents.
A patrol team from the D Division, Dutsen Tanshi, working with members of the Yan Committee, was deployed to the affected areas and dispersed the youths.
The command said a member of the Yan Committee sustained injuries while helping to restore order and was receiving medical attention in stable condition.
One suspect was arrested, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend others who fled.
In a separate incident, the police arrested a 25-year-old suspected Sara-Suka leader, Abubakar Adamu Aliyu, popularly known as Zadous, over an alleged attempt to attack a Peace Corps personnel at Kofar Dumi.
According to the police, the suspect and other armed youths stormed the victim’s residence at about 6:30 p.m., allegedly intending to attack him.
The command said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was on a revenge mission against the Peace Corps personnel, who had reportedly reported his activities to the police about seven months ago.
It added that the suspect had previously been charged to court by the A Division, Township, over alleged thuggery and regained his freedom last week.
The police said the suspect remained in custody and would be charged to court after investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, warned that the command would not tolerate Sara-Suka activities, thuggery or public disturbances in Bauchi State.
The police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said in a statement issued on Monday that the commissioner had directed officers to sustain patrols, surveillance and intelligence-led operations to maintain peace.
He urged parents, guardians and community leaders to caution their wards and provide the police with credible information to prevent crime.
