Channels TV about 4 hours 2 mins read

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has banned the use of drones, fireworks and other devices capable of causing panic as the state prepares to receive President Bola Tinubu on a one-day working visit on Friday.

Tinubu is expected to commission projects executed by the administration of Governor Umo Eno and attend a political rally organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Baba Azare, announced the restrictions at a news conference in Uyo on Thursday, describing them as part of measures to ensure a peaceful visit and protect residents.

Azare advised residents to avoid routes designated for the presidential movement to ensure the smooth passage of the President’s convoy. He said major roads, including Airport Road, Iron Road and Ring Road III, leading to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, would be restricted during the visit.

The commissioner also appealed to other political parties in the state to reschedule political activities planned for Friday to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

He warned that the police would not tolerate any attempt to disrupt the visit or cause public disorder, adding that the command was prepared to respond to any security threat.

Projects expected to be commissioned by the President include the new terminal building at Victor Attah International Airport, the Aviation Village, the Ring Road III Extension and Arise Resort Park in Uyo.
