Police Begin Crackdown On Unregistered Vehicles, Concealed Number Plates In Katsina

Channels TV about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Katsina State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement operation against vehicles operating with unregistered, concealed, defaced, fake, or improperly affixed number plates as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve crime detection.

The move follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, aimed at enhancing internal security and supporting proactive policing across the country.

According to the Command, the increasing use of hidden, missing, and unauthorised registration plates by criminal elements has become a major security concern, as it enables offenders to evade identification and frustrate law enforcement efforts.

Under the operation, security personnel will target vehicles without valid registration, those using fake or duplicated plates, and vehicles with number plates that are covered, obscured, mutilated, altered, or replaced with unauthorised inscriptions, logos, or decorative formats.

According to the Command, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Ali Fage, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to ensure strict compliance with the enforcement exercise across the state.

The police warned that any vehicle found violating the regulations will be impounded, investigated, and the owners prosecuted in accordance with existing laws.

Motorists have been advised to regularise their vehicle registrations and ensure that number plates remain visible and compliant with legal requirements.

While charging officers involved in the operation to uphold professionalism and civility, the Commissioner of Police cautioned against acts of extortion, intimidation, or harassment, stressing that any officer found engaging in misconduct would face severe disciplinary action.

Residents have also been encouraged to report suspicious vehicles and any complaints against officers through the Command’s emergency lines or the Police Public Relations Office.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through proactive policing and enhanced security measures across Katsina State.
