The Kogi State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement exercise against vehicles operating with covered, obscured, unauthorised, defaced, invalid or missing registration number plates as part of efforts to enhance security and curb criminal activities across the state.

The operation, which began on Monday, follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at preventing the use of unidentifiable vehicles for criminal activities.

The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Motor Traffic Police personnel to ensure strict enforcement of the directive across their jurisdictions.

According to the command, vehicles found in violation of the regulations will be impounded and subjected to investigation in line with existing laws.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, the command said the exercise is a proactive security measure aimed at improving vehicle identification, strengthening crime prevention efforts and enhancing security operations across the state.

The statement advised motorists, transport operators and fleet owners to ensure that their vehicles display valid and clearly visible registration number plates at all times.

Vehicle owners were also urged to keep all relevant documents up to date and readily available for inspection when required.

“The exercise is aimed at strengthening public safety by denying criminal elements the use of unidentifiable vehicles for criminal activities,” the statement said.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and appealed to residents to cooperate with officers carrying out the enforcement exercise.

It also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, vehicles or activities to the nearest police station or through established emergency channels.
