Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

Osun State Police Command confirmed has that two people were killed while four others sustained gunshot injuries during a suspected cult clash in Osogbo, Osun State, on Friday.

The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the incident was suspected to have been perpetrated by cult groups operating around the Oke-Baale area of Osogbo.

Ojelabi said, “The command is aware of a shooting incident suspected to have been perpetrated by cult groups around the Oke-Baale area, Osogbo.”

He confirmed that one of the deceased was identified as Small Rugged, while efforts were ongoing to establish his other names.

“Two persons died at the spot. One of them is identified as ‘Small Rugged’. His other names are not known yet. Four other people sustained gunshot injuries and have been rushed by the police to a nearby hospital for treatment,” the spokesperson stated.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, directed tactical teams of the command to move into the area and arrest those responsible for the killings.

The police evacuated the bodies from the scene, while the four people injured during the incident were taken to a hospital for medical attention.

DAILY POST gathered that the violence started at a lounge in the Owoeba community, located along the Osogbo-Ilesa Road, where the victims were said to have been drinking before the attackers arrived.

A resident of the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of security concerns, said gunshots and commotion were heard shortly after the suspected assailants arrived at the lounge.

The source added that a fight reportedly broke out before the victims were overpowered by the attackers, resulting in the deaths of two people.

“We heard gunshots and noise in the afternoon. The deceased was with some people drinking when the assailants arrived. They were in a lounge.

“One of them was hit on the head by the assailants. He died on the spot. Another man was also shot by the assailants,” the resident added.
