The Kano State Police Command says it has foiled an attempted kidnapping in Gezawa Local Government Area and arrested two suspects accused of threatening to abduct a village head.
The suspects were arrested by operatives attached to the Gezawa Division following intelligence-led operations.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the village head of Bangare, Mallam Idris, reported the threat to the police on October 26, 2026.
The statement said the village head received a threatening phone call on October 24 at about 9:33 p.m. from an unidentified caller who threatened to kidnap him.
“Upon receipt of the report, operatives attached to Gezawa Division swiftly swung into action. Sustained follow-up, coupled with intelligence-led operations, led to the arrest of the suspects,” the statement said.
The police said the suspects had confessed to the crime, adding that investigations were ongoing ahead of their arraignment in court.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers for their swift and professional response.
He reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on criminal activities and emphasised the importance of intelligence-led policing in preventing crime.
Bakori said the operation aligned with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, which prioritises intelligence-led and technology-driven policing, professionalism and proactive crime prevention.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or movements to the nearest police station.
