Police foil robbery attack, recover firearm in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Police Command says its operatives have foiled an armed robbery attack in a household at Iton Odoro village, Ikono Local Government Area of the state.

The suspected robber was arrested while a locally made single-barrel gun was recovered.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, in a statement on Tuesday said the operatives responded swiftly following a distress call from members of the public.

According to the statement, “On 17 August 2026, at about 1830hrs, the Command received credible information that a suspected criminal armed with a firearm was threatening a household at Iton Odoro Village, Ikono Local Government Area.

“Acting promptly on the information and in collaboration with vigilant members of the community, Police operatives mobilised to the location, where they successfully disarmed and arrested the suspect without any casualty.”

The statement noted that the complainant, alleged that he was at home with his family when the suspect entered the compound through the back gate and threatened them with the locally made firearm.

The suspect, Emmanuel Okoyo, is currently in police custody, while the recovered firearm has been secured as an exhibit.

“The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, commended the members of the public for their timely cooperation and the Police operatives for their prompt and professional response,” the statement added.
