Police Hunt Suspect After Casual Labourer Is Found Murdered in Ibanda

IBANDA – Police in Ibanda District have launched a manhunt for a 25-year-old man suspected of murdering a casual labourer whose naked body was discovered lying by the roadside in Kicuzi Sub-County.

The suspect, identified as Agaba Alex, a resident of Kakyindo Cell, Irimya Parish, is accused of killing Masereka Didas, 35, who also lived in the same area.

According to a police statement issued on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the incident was reported on October 31 at approximately 7:00am after residents discovered Masereka’s lifeless, naked body by the roadside.

The residents immediately alerted the Kakyindo Cell LC I Chairperson, who subsequently notified police at Kicuzi Sub-County Police Station.

Following the report, a team of officers from Kicuzi Sub-County Police Station and Ibanda Central Police Station rushed to the scene, accompanied by the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) and the Police Canine Unit.

Police said the scene had been adequately preserved to facilitate investigations, allowing a sniffer dog identified as DONATELLA to pick up a scent and begin tracking the suspected assailant.

The canine operation reportedly led officers to the residence of Agaba, who was, however, missing when police arrived. Investigators believe he may have fled into Queen Elizabeth National Park.

In a further development, the sniffer dog entered the suspect’s house and led officers to his bedroom, where police recovered clothes bearing suspected bloodstains.

The clothing items were taken as potential exhibits to support ongoing investigations and help establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Meanwhile, Masereka’s body was transported to Ruhoko Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Police said the manhunt for Agaba was still ongoing as investigations continued.

The circumstances surrounding Masereka’s death, including the motive for the alleged murder and whether the suspect had any prior relationship with the deceased, remain unclear.

Police have not yet announced any arrest in connection with the incident.
