The Ogun State Police Command says its operatives have killed two suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted victim along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road in the Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.
The command said operatives of its Anti-Kidnapping Unit carried out the operation as part of ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities across the state.
Items recovered during the operation include two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm live ammunition, two mobile phones and ₦2 million in cash, which the police said was reasonably suspected to be part of the proceeds of criminal activities.
The development was contained in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Sunday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Oluborode Opeyemi.
According to the force, the victim, a professional truck driver, was abducted at about 11:10 p.m. on August 25, in the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State.
The command said that, upon receiving the report, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately commenced efforts to secure the victim’s release and apprehend the perpetrators.
“The victim, a professional truck driver, was abducted on August 25, 2026, at about 11:10 p.m. at the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State. Upon receipt of the report, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit squad swung into action to secure the victim’s release and bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement said.
It added that operatives, acting on actionable intelligence, stormed the kidnappers’ hideout along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road.
“Determined to ensure that the perpetrators did not evade justice, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, working on actionable intelligence, stormed the kidnappers’ hideout located along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road and, in the process, two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang fled the scene with different degrees of gunshot injuries,” he said.
The command stated that a search of the hideout subsequently led to the recovery of the two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, two mobile phones and ₦2 million in cash.
“The corpses of the neutralised kidnappers have been deposited at the morgue for autopsy, while the Command has since intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing gang members,” the force added.
The command described the operation as a major breakthrough and a testament to the effectiveness of its intelligence-driven and proactive crime-fighting strategies aimed at protecting residents across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, reiterated that Ogun State would remain a hostile terrain for criminal elements and assured residents that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, tactical operations and strategic partnerships with communities to protect lives and property.
He urged members of the public to remain security-conscious and provide timely, useful and credible information, particularly about persons seeking treatment for gunshot wounds, to assist ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminality.
