The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old businessman, Akinola Damilare, popularly known as “General Don”, for allegedly impersonating military personnel and attempted murder.

Parading the suspect in Abeokuta, the state capital, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that the arrest follows credible intelligence from a community leader about the activities of the suspect in the area.

“The suspect was arrested  at Kajola, Elega, Abeokuta North Local Government of the state following credible intelligence from a community leader and discreet surveillance by operatives of the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics,” he said

“Items recovered from him include a military face cap, three-quarter military trousers and four photographs depicting him in military uniform.”

He says investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation and determine whether others are connected to the case.

The Command has, however, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to tackle impersonation and other criminal activities, urging residents to promptly report suspicious conduct for effective response and reduce crime to the barest minimum.
