
Abia State Police Command says it has raided a hideout in Obikabia community in Aba, where criminal elements were allegedly producing counterfeit Nigerian currency.
According to the command, a 40-year-old suspect, John Paul, was arrested with seven bundles of counterfeit N200 notes.
The development was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, in a press statement on Friday.
She noted that the command had commenced an investigation into the matter, adding that efforts were underway to arrest other fleeing members of the counterfeit naira-producing syndicate.
“Leveraging actionable intelligence, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Abia State Police Command raided a hideout within Obikabia community in Aba, where some criminal elements were engaged in the production of counterfeit Nigerian currency.
“During the operation, the above-mentioned suspect was apprehended, while seven bundles of counterfeit N200 notes were recovered as exhibits,” she said.
The command further reiterated that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, remained unwavering in his commitment to combating criminal activities and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
