The Ogun State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in Ota, recovering an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and a Mercedes-Benz GLK.
The latest recovery comes after operatives foiled a night robbery at Ijaba, Iyesi, neutralising one suspect and recovering two vehicles and cache of stolen property on Sunday.
The new development was contained in a statement by the Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babasheyi, on Monday, in Abeokuta.
According to him, a search of the unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK led to the discovery of an AK-47 rifle and two rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
"The vehicle and recovered exhibits have been secured, while investigation continues," Babasheyi said.
He said the development adds to the outcome of the earlier operation in Ijaba, where operatives of Onipanu Division responded to a distress call and engaged suspected armed robbers in a gun duel.
One suspect was neutralised in that operation, while others fled with suspected gunshot injuries, with two vehicles, a locally made pistol and assorted stolen household items recovered.
He quouted the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, to have commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command's commitment to proactive policing and protection of lives and property, urging residents to sustain cooperation with the police through timely information.
