Police release Osun NUJ Secretary, Akindoju

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Secretary of the Osun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Olalekan Akindoju, has been released by the Osun State Police Command.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that Akindoju was arrested at this house early on Thursday morning, by operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Osun State Police Command.

The Osun NUJ Chairman, Adeyemi Aboderin, earlier confirmed the arrest on the Osun NUJ official WhatsApp platform.

He said, “IMPORTANT NOTICE: “Policemen reportedly arrested Hon.Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Osun State Council, Comrade Olalekan Akindoju at his residence on Thursday morning.

“His apartment was allegedly bursted by policemen and taken to the State CID, Osogbo.

More details coming……”

Also, Daniel Odeyemi, the Chairman of the Rave FM Chapel of the NUJ, where Akindoju is a member, also confirmed that police officers reportedly arrived at his residence and took him away.

He said, “Lekan called the Head of Station this morning and said police officers stormed his house and they are taking him to the state CID.”

Odeyemi also said the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Rave FM, Mr Femi Adefila, had gone to the Osun State Police Command headquarters on the matter.

However, later in the day, Aboderin, in another update on the WhatsApp platform, said Akindoju had been released unconditionally.

The chairman attributed his arrest to a case of mistaken identity.

The Osun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, speaking with journalists earlier before Alomdoju’s release, said he was working hard to establish what happened.

Ojelabi confirmed that he had located the station where Akindoju was being detained to find out what happened.

He also said the Osun NUJ Chairman, Aboderin and some other officials of the Union were with him at the police headquarters.
