Police rescue 22 victims from bandits captivity in Kwara

About 22 persons in Kwara South Senatorial District, have been rescued from armed bandits captivity, DAILY POST reports.

They were released after a fierce and coordinated operation by Kogi State Joint Security Forces comprising the Military, Police, Hunters and Vigilante groups in forests along the Kwara-Kogi border, according to a statement by the Kwara South Joint Security Watch on Sunday.

The freed victims have reportedly been reunited with their families.

The statement revealed that among those released were four people from Idofin-Igbana kidnapped about three months ago, 15 Ikerin Church worshippers from Eda Oniyo, abducted on April 28, 2026 during a vigil and three of the remaining eight people, ECWA Church Omugo kidnapped early April 2026 while worshipping.

DAILY POST recalls that five of the Omugo ECWA church abducted victims were recently reported to have died under circumstances yet to be ascertained.

According to the security outfit, “there are also others yet to be identified who regained their freedom from the same proactive actions in Kogi State.

“We give glory to God for answered prayers. We commend the bravery and sacrifice of the Kogi State Joint Security Operatives,” the statement added.
