The Edo State Police Command has urged law-abiding citizens to go about their lawful business and refrain from actions capable of disrupting public peace, safety, law and order in the state.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, on Tuesday, noted that the warning was necessitated after the Command received calls from several citizens drawing its attention to online posts from certain quarters calling for public protest.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, acknowledged citizens’ right to peaceful protest; however, advised anyone with grievances to channel their complaint through appropriate and legitimate means instead of resorting to self-help that could truncate existing peace.
He warned against violence, destruction of property, obstruction of public roads, and other acts capable of threatening public peace and order, as the Command will not tolerate any such unlawful acts from any individual or group of persons.
The Command assured residents that adequate security measures are being put in place to protect lives and property.
He urged the public to promptly report suspicious activities through the following channels: Police Emergency Control Room (Distress Lines): 08077773721, 08067551618, 08056776365, 08123827225, and 08037646272.
Complaint Response Unit (CRU), Benin — Complaints Against Police Personnel: 08100389992 and 08150999335.
