The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, Bassey Ewah, has warned motorists in Osun and Oyo states against the unlawful use of vehicle sirens, revolving lights and covered number plates.
Ewah also cautioned vehicle owners against using unauthorised tinted windows and unregistered vehicles, stressing the need to comply with existing laws and regulations governing road use.
The warning was contained in a press statement dated 29 October 2026 and issued by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, SP Ojedele Olanrewaju Tunji.
According to the statement, "the AIG urged members of the public to ensure that their vehicles comply with the applicable regulations on registration, identification and the use of specialised vehicle equipment."
He said the unlawful use of sirens and revolving lights, as well as the concealment of vehicle number plates, could undermine public safety and obstruct effective law enforcement.
The police chief warned that such practices could facilitate criminal activities, making compliance with traffic and vehicle regulations necessary for maintaining security across the two states.
Ewah emphasised that vehicle owners and motorists must ensure that their number plates are properly displayed and remain visible to law enforcement officers and other relevant authorities.
He also reminded members of the public that the use of tinted vehicle windows must comply with applicable regulations, while vehicles on public roads must be duly registered.
The AIG warned that anyone found violating the relevant laws would face appropriate legal action, regardless of their social standing or position in society.
“Anyone found violating the relevant laws and regulations would be dealt with in accordance with the law, irrespective of their status or position in society,” the statement said.
Ewah called on motorists and other residents of Osun and Oyo states to obey the relevant regulations and cooperate with the police in promoting public safety and preventing crime.
He added that public cooperation remained important to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and supporting effective policing across the zone.
While urging members of the public to comply with vehicle regulations and support efforts to ensure safety and security, he reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to enforcing the law without fear or favour.
