Portugal: João Cancelo declares stance on Cristiano Ronaldo’s situation

Daily Post about 2 hours 1 mins read

Portugal defender, João Cancelo, has taken a stance regarding the potential return of Cristiano Ronaldo to the Portuguese national team in the forthcoming FIFA break.

This is following the recent institutional challenges involving the 41-year-old and head coach Jorge Jesus.

Portugal successfully recovered from a deficit to defeat Norway 2-1, thereby securing their advancement to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Nations League.

Cancelo equalized the match in the 38th minute with an exceptional long-range effort, followed by Gonçalo Ramos extending the lead in the 79th minute.

Satisfied with both the outcome and his outstanding performance, Cancelo addressed questions about a prospective Ronaldo return with candor.

“The coaching staff and Mr Pedro Proença (president of the Portuguese Football Federation) will address this matter,” he said, according to Record.

“However, as Bruno Fernandes has previously noted, Cristiano is our captain, embodies a symbol of our national team, he is the best player Portugal has ever had, and circumstances will undoubtedly end favorably.

“The paramount consideration remains these four consecutive victories. I believe we all demonstrated exceptional performance, including him. Subsequently, it is time to celebrate, and we shall reconvene in November.”
