The Progressive Old Students’ Association, Tede (POSAT), has announced plans to launch a ₦1.5 billion development fund as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Progressive Secondary Grammar School, Tede, Oyo State.

The association, which brings together alumni of Progressive Modern School, established in 1959, and Progressive Secondary Grammar School, upgraded to secondary school status in 1976, said the golden jubilee celebration would commence in November 2026.

According to a statement jointly signed by POSAT’s Interim National President, Dr. Funso Folaranmi, and Interim National Secretary, Tajudeen Alabede, the school, originally established by the government of the old Oyo State on November 22, 1976, would officially mark its 50th anniversary on November 22, 2026.

The association said the milestone would celebrate five decades of academic excellence and the institution’s contributions to education and community development.

To commemorate the anniversary, POSAT said it had lined up activities to include its first-ever Global Alumni Reunion, the celebration of the school’s 67th anniversary since its original establishment in 1959, and the golden jubilee of its upgrade to secondary school status.

The statement said the activities would feature special thanksgiving services, Community Engagement Day, Homecoming and School Community Day, Global Alumni Reunion Day, and a grand finale.

It added that the grand finale, scheduled for Saturday, November 28, 2026, would attract prominent political, business and civic leaders, alongside alumni and other stakeholders in the education sector.

A major highlight of the celebration, according to the association, would be a scholarly symposium themed, “The Future of Community-Based Public Secondary Schools in Nigeria.”

Other activities would include the unveiling of the Strategic School Development Initiative, the official launch of the ₦1.5 billion Development Fund, and the presentation of Legacy Awards to individuals who played pioneering roles in establishing and developing the institution.

The association said the anniversary was designed not only to celebrate the school’s history and achievements but also to mobilise alumni and stakeholders towards securing its future through sustainable development initiatives.
