President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will tomorrow, October 1, 2026, officiate at the national celebrations to mark the International Day of Older Persons, which will be held at State House, Entebbe.
The President is expected to serve as the Chief Guest during the event, which will commence at 11:00am and bring together government officials, leaders, development partners, representatives of older persons and other invited guests.
The announcement was made by the Special Presidential Assistant on Press and Mobilisation and Deputy Press Secretary to H.E President, Alhaji Faruk Kirunda, through a message shared on X, in which he called upon the public to follow the proceedings.
According to Alhaji Kirunda, the celebrations will be broadcast live on various radio and television stations across the country to enable Ugandans participate remotely in commemorating the contribution of older persons to national development.
The International Day of Older Persons is observed globally every year on October 1 to recognise the role of senior citizens in society and to raise awareness about issues affecting their welfare, rights, health and social protection.
Uganda has over the years used the occasion to highlight government interventions aimed at improving the livelihoods of older persons, including access to healthcare, social support programmes and initiatives that promote dignity and active ageing.
This year’s national celebrations at State House are expected to underscore the importance of recognising older persons as valuable contributors to families, communities and the country’s socio-economic transformation.
