The Presidency has dismissed reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has withdrawn its Presidential Campaign Council list for the 2027 election, saying the structure remains in place but will undergo some adjustments.
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, gave the clarification on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.
His comments came amid controversy over the composition of the council, particularly the inclusion of some party leaders and the absence of others, which had sparked reports that the list was being reconsidered.
According to Dare, however, the list remains valid because the campaign structure is not yet complete, with several subcommittees still to be constituted.
“As it is with every other list, there’s a room for subcommittees. Those subcommittees have not been formed, and so many other names will come into that subcommittee,” he said.
Dare also pointed to a statement issued by the APC on the matter, insisting that the party had not withdrawn the list.
“So that list has not been withdrawn. The APC has issued a statement to that effect yesterday, that list stands. But of course, there will be adjustments. The list is not cast in stone, just like every other list.”
The campaign council, which was announced over the weekend, has President Tinubu as chairman, while Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda were named vice chairmen.
Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator, Abdul’aziz Yari, was appointed Director-General, with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma named secretary.
Pressed on whether the changes amounted to a review of the council, Dare drew a distinction between the two terms, saying the expected changes would only be made where necessary.
“Not a review, just adjustments where necessary,” he said.
Explaining his choice of words, the presidential aide said a review would imply a much broader overhaul of the existing structure.
“Review is wholesale, this is not wholesale,” Dare said.
He added that the planned subcommittees would allow more party members and political stakeholders to be accommodated within the campaign structure.
