As voters in Ekiti State head to the polls on June 20, 2026, to elect a governor for the next four years, attention is focused on whether the state will choose continuity or change.

The current Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, assumed office on October 16, 2022, serving under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Will voters back the incumbent Governor for a second term? Or will they reshape the state’s political landscape by supporting another candidate?

— Groups from Ekiti South Senatorial District are calling for the governorship seat to rotate to the region. Their argument is rooted in the belief that since the creation of Ekiti State in 1996, power has largely alternated between the North and Central senatorial districts.

Election Hours

Voting starts at 8:30 pm am and ends at 2:30 pm. However, voters already on the queue by 2:30 pm will still be allowed to vote.
