LUWERO — Organisers of the Rajiv Ruparelia Legacy Van to Gulu say the convoy will make a charity stop at Luwero Girls Primary School on Thursday, 8 October 2026, where items will be handed over in honour of the late businessman and rally driver.
The stop was announced by Bukenya Sulaiman, who said the team was ready for the visit and described it as a moment to keep alive Rajiv’s “spirit of kindness, generosity and giving back.” The handover is branded under the “Forever RR” and “Van To Gulu” campaign, with banners reading “Rajiv Ruparelia Legacy Van to Gulu Rally” and “In memory of the late Rajiv Ruparelia.”
Rajiv Ruparelia, managing director of the Ruparelia Group and only son of businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, died on 3 May 2025 in a road crash at the Busabala Flyover in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District. He was 35. Police said the Nissan GT-R he was driving lost control, struck barriers, overturned and caught fire. He was cremated on 6 May 2025 at the Hindu crematorium in Lugogo.
Away from the family businesses, Rajiv was active in Ugandan motorsport from 2019, founded the Rajiv Ruparelia Rally Team and served as patron of the Central Motor Club (CMC). He competed in events including the Kabalega Rally and was known for driving a Volkswagen Polo Proto. After his death, the 2025 national rally round in Gulu was run in his memory, and Gulu City Council later resolved to name a road near Pece Stadium after him, subject to approval by the Ministry of Local Government.
This week’s journey north coincides with the sixth round of the 2026 KCB National Rally Championship, organised by CMC and running in Gulu from 8 to 10 October. Daily Monitor reported that the club and the Ruparelia Foundation will also donate sugar, rice, soap, posho, milk and beans to the Gulu Disabled Persons Union on Friday, 9 October, Independence Day. Organiser Saeed Kaketo said the gifts are meant to remember Rajiv’s role in the club.
The Luwero stop adds a school-level chapter to a year of tributes that has already included a memorial drive in Kampala, a prosthetic-limb donation at Mulago National Referral Hospital, and continued education support through the Ruparelia Foundation. Organisers say the van is carrying the same message north: that Rajiv’s legacy should be measured in service, not only in business and sport.
Forever RR, they say, remains with the people he touched.
